U.S. mobile advertising will be a $7.29 billion industry in 2013, according to reported issued by eMarketer this month, an upward revision of $100 million from December.

Apple files patent for phone with wrap-around display | Engadget

The patent involves building a device from an open-ended transparent body (of glass, for example) that becomes a full wrap-around display when a flexible AMOLED screen is unfurled within it. It doesn’t imagine all that real-estate will necessarily be used at once, though, and includes details of a “detection mechanism,” such as a camera and facial recognition software, which would determine how much of the screen you can see, so that power is only sent to the parts that are in view.

That takes a lot of time and a lot of thought.’

Mr. Brown said that although such advertising is nontraditional, Tumblr has been able to sell promoted posts to companies including Target Corp., Adidas, Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. and Christian Dior. Tumblr is trying to persuade customers to use its platform as a starting point to create messages that can then be distributed to other social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

‘Marketers have become accustomed to buying scale as opposed to earning it,’ Mr. Brown said. ‘We’re not really selling ads, we’re promoting their content.’
”

- Tumblr to Introduce Mobile Advertising (via Percolate)

The Napster Documentary - coming soon...

A seminal moment, previewed exclusively [below], came when they were able to scale Napster up so that everyone could use it. “It was all about making small, incremental wins with the code and with the technology,” Ali Aydar, Napster’s one-time senior director of technology, says in the clip. Once they did that they reached 20 million users in almost no time.
